About

The Huang Scholarship was started after the team at the Koo Foundation Sun Yat-Sen Cancer Center found success in its healthcare leadership training program called The New School. Since 2018, the New School has been focused on training mid-career healthcare professionals to become transformative leaders in their respective fields. The New School has an ongoing partnership with National ChengChi University's (NCCU) College of Commerce which awards scholars an executive master in business administration (EMBA) degree after two years of coursework at NCCU and the New School.

In 2022, the groundwork was laid to begin training scholars from the early-career life stage. These efforts culminate in the Huang Scholarship which looks to kickstart the career trajectory of (aspiring) physician leaders coming out of medical schools in Taiwan.

Mission

To develop the most exceptional post-graduate medical trainees in Taiwan and realize their enormous potential in solving the most complex healthcare challenges of our time.

Motivation

The program strives to make an impact on healthcare quality, value, investment, and sustainability. Artificially depressed payments healthcare costs, high patient volumes, and a lack of continuity and integrated efforts in health systems are creating healthcare delivery challenges in Taiwan.

The scholarship aims to address a range of leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviors essential to tackling these challenges, including systems-based analysis, quality improvement methodology, and developing communication and teamwork skills.
